RIA Endovascular Doctors Third to Perform Successful Minimally Invasive Bone Cancer Surgery

Dr. Anthony Brown, along with orthopedic oncologist Dr. Daniel Lerman, recently completed a successful, minimally invasive, acetabular (the cup-shaped socket of the hip joint) reconstruction to help treat metastatic bone cancer of the pelvis.

This is the 3rd time in the U.S. that this particular procedure has been successfully performed.

There are over 280,000 people living with bone cancer in the U.S. As a result of their bones being weakened by this cancer, many within this number experience bone weakness, bone pain and even fractures.

Using precise imaging and computer guidance, Dr. Brown and Dr. Lerman made small, 1 cm incisions, placing cement and unique bone screws in the pelvis, reinforcing the pelvic bone. These minimally invasive tactics shorten recovery time, with some patients being discharged the same day as the procedure.

Thanks to this unique procedure, those living with metastatic bone cancer can lead better, more pain free lives.
